Local Search Results

Cliqz supports localized search results that provide more relevant information. All you need to do is set the Share location option to “Always” in the Control Center. Based on your location, Cliqz determines the best results in your proximity.

For example, when searching for the name of a movie theater chain such as “Cinestar” or “Cinemaxx”, Cliqz shows you the current program of the nearest movie theater, including address and map. If you are searching for a movie, you will get a list sorted by distance with cinemas near your location that show the movie you are looking for.

Of course, you don’t have to tell Cliqz your location. But then you can’t benefit from locally enhanced search results. If you choose not to share your location, Cliqz will provide the most popular search results for your query without taking any location data into account. For example, if you are searching for a movie, you’ll likely get suggestions for a movie theater in Berlin even though you are currently in Munich.

Setting your preference to “always” share your location will instantly return information on showtimes at a cinema nearby:

It’s up to you which setting you use. Locally enhanced search results come without a price tag. The location data is used solely to provide location-based information to you, if available. It is anonymized and cannot be traced back by us.

How to Enable the Location Service

  1. Click on the Control Center icon (Q icon) next to the address bar and open the section “Search Options”.
  2. Click on the dropdown menu next to “Share location” and select “Always”. Now you can close the Control Center and enjoy locally enhanced search results.
