Password manager Bitwarden now available in Cliqz Browser
Bitwarden is open source and offers similar functionality as LastPass. We have audited the add-on before integrating it into our browser to ensure that it does not endanger our users' privacy.
The open source password manager Bitwarden is now available as an optional add-on in the Cliqz Browser for Windows and Mac. The functionality and security level of the new extension are very similar to the additionally supported LastPass.
Bitwarden offers a secure password generator and an encrypted vault for logins, secure notes, credit card data, and identities. You can easily import your data from other password manager applications. Stored data can be synchronized between multiple devices and platforms (including Android and iOS). Two-step authentication and auto-fill (still experimental) are also supported.
Before being transmitted to the Bitwarden servers, your logins are encrypted locally on your device. They are sealed with end-to-end AES-256 bit encryption, salted hashing and PBKDF2 SHA-256. Only you have access to your data, not even the Bitwarden team can read it.
Integration only after strict review
As LastPass, HTTPS Everywhere, and Ghostery Bitwarden also had to undergo a strict auditing process before being integrated into the Cliqz Browser. However, despite careful verification of the source code we ultimately have no control over what data third-party extensions might access.
To install Bitwarden in Cliqz, you must first open the browser settings. To do this, click on the burger menu (the three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner and select “Options“. Then select the “Privacy & Security” tab on the left. In the “Browser Privacy” section you will find the Bitwarden icon under “Password Managers“. Click on the “Install” button to the right of the icon to start the download.
With anti-tracking, ad-blocking and video downloader Cliqz offers many built-in features that are only available as add-ons for other browsers. We are also constantly working towards new solutions to make the most popular features available in the Cliqz Browser in a secure way.
If you want to use key Cliqz features such as quick search and anti-tracking together with add-ons that are not yet supported by the Cliqz Browser for Windows and Mac, you can switch to Cliqz for Firefox. In the Mozilla browser, Cliqz and other extensions can be used in parallel.
