YouTube-mp3.org will shut down: Cliqz offers an alternative
With the built-in Video Downloader of Cliqz Browser, you can download the audio track of a YouTube video and save it as audio file. You will no longer need a stream ripping service.
According to media reports, the popular stream ripping service YouTube-mp3.org is about to be shut down. This is due to legal disputes with the music industry. The ad-financed online service converted the audio track of a YouTube video into an MP3 file, which the user could then download for free. The website is still accessible; however, the conversion fails with the note: “There is some Maintenance going on. Please try again within the next hour.”
If you are looking for an alternative, you should have a look at the Video Downloader integrated in Cliqz Browser. It allows you to download the audio track of a YouTube video and save it as audio file. When opening a YouTube video, a download icon appears next to the browser bar – if a download is possible. A click on the icon opens a dialog where you can select the download format.
Downloading only the audio track of a video is great for music clips or concert recordings! Normally the audio-only format is M4A with a bit rate of 128 Kbps. At a running time of around 4 minutes, the downloadable M4A file is approximately 4 megabytes in size.
The Video Downloader is part of Cliqz for Windows and Mac, Cliqz for Android, and Cliqz for iOS. [Update 10/15/2019: The video downloader is no longer available in the mobile versions of Cliqz.] You can download the desktop versions directly from our website. The mobile versions are available in Google’s Play Store and Apples App Store.
